Laser Hair Removal Review – by Date Night With Tila

LASER HAIR REMOVAL REVIEW – BY DATE NIGHT WITH TILA Written by Tila on www.datenightwithtila.com Perhaps the most annoying thing about being a woman, as I’m sure you can all agree, is the pain, hassle and cost we have to go through to get rid of unwanted hair. During the winter months, it’s kind of ok to be lazy – no one’s going to see it anyway, right? Yes, but then there’s me who jet set off every single time the winter comes, so I deal with this problem year round. In the beginning, I shaved, cost effective and convenient. Then I got older and realized that activity alone required 3-4 days maintenance. Ain’t nobody got time for that. Luckily, my arms and legs are immune to hair and so I only grow hair, well underarms and bikini area. Even then, my esthetician said I am lucky to not produce as much hair as some people, maybe it’s an Asian thing or genetics. I didn’t want to be shaving every 3-4 days while I am on vacation so I jumped on the waxing wagon. I imaged it isn’t the best thing for your skin, I mean the yanking and pulling constantly couldn’t be any good for your skin. That’s why I don’t wax my brows because I don’t want wrinkly forehead. Last week I visited Medi Spa, a bright cute medical clinic located in downtown Vancouver. Kam, the owner assisted me in covering all my concerns about my face and body. She’s an awesome lady, sometimes you simply know when you can trust someone with your face. That doesn’t happen often for me. She is so passionate about what she does, it really shows through her results. And we are her results. This session, I went in for my underarms and face (Kam framed my hair line), it instantly brighten up my face structure and shaped the side of my face (got rid of some annoying baby hairs, but Kam said not to take them off because you will need them when you’re older). I didn’t realize how different one can look with a structured hair line! I am going in for a Brazilian laser next session. It’s far quicker than waxing too. In around 10 minutes, my session was over – both face and underarms – and I was off on my way with my aftercare advice. I saw a noticeable difference after my first session, and didn’t need to shave my underarms for close to two weeks (hooray!); most people need around five sessions or so to achieve permanent hair removal, depending on hair and skin type. My follow-up session was six weeks after my first (a typical hair growth cycle), allowing the therapist to see exactly how much hair had been permanently eradicated first time around. Picture below is my underarm growth in 1.5 weeks!! And so to the bit you’re all waiting for… the pain factor! I’ll admit that having Googled “Laser hair removal how much pain?” I was bracing myself for something truly awful and was sweating before that first zap. So imagine my delight and surprise when it actually… wasn’t that bad! Unlike old-style laser hair removal, Media Spa state-of-the-art machine simultaneously fires a laser beam and an icy-cold jet of air, meaning that all you feel is a slight tingling sensation, with some very mild stinging over the most delicate areas. I can’t handle pain well at all and I survived so I am sure even a child can do this. I can honestly say that I’d take this every single day over waxing, with the caveat that – as with a wax – you should avoid scheduling your treatment around the time of your period as this can make you more sensitive to pain. If – like me – body hair is a preoccupation and you are sick of the bother of maintenance, laser is a great option. Ok, so it’s a little pricey upfront, but if you weigh the cost (and sheer hassle) up against a lifetime of waxing appointments, the numbers are pretty favourable… And just think of all the things you’d rather be doing with that time! It’s fair to say I’m a total laser convert. I can’t wait to get all the way through my remaining sessions to follicular freedom… LASER HAIR REMOVAL: WHAT IS IT?   According to a reputable Med Spa in Gurnee, IL, laser hair removal can address men and women of all skin types safely, from light to dark, even tanned clients and in fewer treatments. It’s unique design longer wavelength, and impressive cooling allow incredibly reliable, safe and irreversible results. Skin Struggles: Cystic Acne – by Christie Lohr (Beauty Nine to Five)

I’ve been struggling with hormone issues for the past year (I’ll write a separate post about what exactly has been going on soon, but I can tell you it’s been a nightmare). I have a thyroid issue that was diagnosed when I was 15, and over a year ago I decided to get off birth control for good. The combination of the two threw my body out of whack and I have yet to recover and adjust fully. Again, I’ll talk about that another time, for now let’s focus on my skin. A side effect of my hormone problems, and in general hormone imbalances, is cystic acne – something I’ve dealt with off and on in the last few months and in my 20s. With my body finally beginning to normalize after a year, my cystic acne seems to have returned. For anyone who has dealt with this, they know just how awful it can be. Cystic acne isn’t your typical acne blemish, but instead deep, extremely painful flares up that can often time take over a week to heal. I’ve tried every product out there and nothing seems to help. In my experience, it’s something you just have to let run its course. Because of this I’ve become a pro at applying makeup and concealing, and I’ll avoid events if I have a particularly bad flare up. Cystic acne can leave you with red scars or marks. For the most part these do fade, but sometimes they don’t and you’re left with an uneven skin tone and dark spots. What has benefited my skin greatly is IPL (Intense pulsed light), Pure Light Laser. IPL removes pigmentation from your skin, so it’s great for those suffering from rosacea, sunspots and red acne scars. I also had sunspots from all those years in the sun with no protection and this laser also got rid of those as well. My skin was left pretty flawless for the last two years, until lately! Since I’ve been breaking out again, new acne marks have reappeared. Besides time to let the red marks fade, IPL completely removes them. It’s been the best thing I’ve done for my skin. IPL is a non-invasive treatment that removes skin imperfections with no downtime. It just feels like an elastic band lightly snapping your face. While I wait for my skin to calm down, this has been a godsend. If you want to treat your acne like me, you can consult experts like Orchidia Medical Group in Naples, FL or Miia Medspa in Rowley, MA that do RF microneedling in Huntsville, AL and other skin treatments. To help speed along the healing process, I’ve also just started taking probiotics. Unbalanced hormones can cause gut issues, and it’s true what they say about whatever is happening inside your body can be seen on the outside. Everyone usually assumes it’s something I am applying to my face that is causing these breakouts, but that’s not the case. More often than not, something is going on internally that you need to address first. You may look at me and say “I don’t see any acne?!” but I’ve just been lucky thus far that my face hasn’t been completely covered and that it only lasts a few months. When these flare ups do appear, I usually get about five all at once, which is worse than it sounds (remember: painful, deep, sore – ouch!). Whenever these flare ups occur they consume my mind and I spend hours researching cures online, creams, antibiotics and reading discussion forums just to find a solution. I’m putting it all out there when I say you can feel completely and utterly helpless. On the topic of skincare, I tackle other purely cosmetic issues (my ego speaking) like the start of lower cheek skin sagging and marionette lines (these are the lines on the lateral sides of your mouth). For this, I’ve been seeing Kam at Vancouver Medi Spa for Skin Tightening. This procedure tightens the underlying skin tissue. I’ve also been getting a similar treatment for nasolabial folds (the marionette, or deep smile lines) but it’s done from inside the mouth. It’s a very new procedure and I suggest getting a consultation with Kam to find out more. Vancouver Medi Spa is one of the only places in the city that has the Fotona Laser – over $100,000 machine that treats many different skin issues. I mention the cost of the machine because so many salons out there buy cheap machines with weak lasers, but charge the same price, so be careful of that. These are the two key spots I go to for my skin treatments. I wasn’t asked to share, but I’m just so passionate about skincare I felt compelled to let you know. If you’re suffering from the same issues I am, or just have questions, let me know! I’d love to offer some advice wherever I can. Christie Lohr Photo taken by Brooklyn Photography

The Non-Surgical Facelift at Vancouver Medi Spa with the Fotona Laser – by Lwini Mata (Beauty Nine to Five)

By Lwini Mata on Beauty Nine to Five   Whether you consider yourself a beauty buff or not, you have to admit that having great skin is pretty much a universal beauty standard. However, we are human and there are a myriad of factors that we cannot control which can interfere with our quest for perfect skin. However, although “perfect” may be unattainable, there are dermatology solutions which can aid in helping your skin look its best. There is an entire faction of the beauty industry which focuses on “anti-aging”. That can refer to anything from preventing the signs of growing older, to erasing them. And while there are various products which promise and deliver outstanding results and help to prevent and slow the early, physical effects of aging on the skin, there is only a small, expensive portion which can claim to successfully reverse its results. For many years now, botox and dermal fillers are two of the most popular treatments that help fight signs of skin aging. Those who are looking for an option that packs a bit more of a punch than a pricey night cream or vitamin-packed serum, but are not comfortable with the idea of going under the knife will be happy to hear about this safe and effective alternative: the Fotona laser. This is the perfect non-invasive alternative for those considering other cosmetic procedures like botox injections and even facelifts. You can consult experts that do Botox injections in Brookings, OR or dermal fillers in Fort Lauderdale, FL for additional guidance on botox injections.   What is the Fotona laser? The Fotona laser is a powerful, non-invasive skin resurfacing tool which employs the use of four treatment nodes administered by a heat-activated laser. The laser uses fractional light to visibly lift, sculpt and tighten the look of your skin. It can be administered on the exterior surface of the skin as well as inside the oral cavity, in which case, it works by stimulating and contracting collagen and in turn, making skin appear more voluminous and plump. The four nodes of operation are as follows: intraoral, rejuvenation, skin tightening, and light peel. Intraoral focuses on the stimulation of collagen, rejuvenation reduces the look of fine lines and wrinkles, skin tightening firms and lifts loose or sagging skin, and light peel resurfaces rough or textured skin. What is the treatment procedure? Before administering the laser, the physician or clinician will usually apply a topical cream containing 7% lidocaine and 7% prilocaine to the desired area and leave it on for 30 minutes prior to beginning the session as a means of numbing the skin. This serves as an alternative to an anesthetic and therefore does not require the patient to be put under in order to undergo the procedure. Once the skin has been prepped, the laser will then be administered twice in a zigzag motion over the desired areas, first vertically, and then horizontally to ensure that the entire surface has been covered. What results can be expected after using the Fotona laser? In addition to effectively reducing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and visibly sculpting and lifting sagging skin, the Fontona laser also helps to resurface the skin, eliminating texture and helping diminish scarring. This leaves clients with a smooth and even complexion, as well as younger-looking skin. The Fotona laser treatment can also serve as a means of lip augmentation, effectively plumping both the upper and lower lips after only six sessions. It is recommended that those seeking these treatments have a between three to five sessions in order to obtain the best and most visible results.

Andrea has travelled internationally to Europe and Asia to work for major fashion houses (think Emilio Pucci, Moschino and Salcatore Ferragamo) and to beautify her celebrity clientele (most recently, Carly Rae Jepsen). With Carly, she was responsible for preparing her for major red carpet events, including the MTV European Music Awards, NRJ Music Awards in Cannes and the Billboard Music Awards, marketing campaigns for Candie’s, Coca-Cola, and Burt’s Bees and hit television shows such as American Idol. Andrea’s résumé doesn’t end there, her beauty looks have been featured in major spreads with magazines like NYLON and Flare. Her undeniable talent, paired with a friendly demeanor, professionalism and attention to detail resulting in flawless faces, have contributed to her reputation as a leading beauty artist in Canada. Follow her here: Instagram | Twitter | Website  Beauty “I’m really just a simple girl when it comes to regular skin care. I don’t do any DIY masks or anything like that. I don’t cook, so I don’t have any of those ingredients in my home anyways. Ultimately, I like a basic routine. So I usually wake up, shower, and then take off my overnight face – that glow that is really oil – with Radical Skincare Hydrating Cleanser. It’s a really hydrating, soft, cream cleanser for anti-aging. I just want my skin to feel moisturized in the morning, nothing hardcore. Then I apply my face lotion. On the mornings when I am at home and working from my computer I don’t use an SPF. So I use Avène Sérénage Nutri-Redensifying Day Cream. It’s nice, not too heavy. My skin is sensitive and oily, so I just need something light. But when I go out and work on location I use Clarins UV Plus HP SPF 40 Day Screen. I love it because it doesn’t interfere with makeup; it’s actually designed for those that wear it. So I do this thing where I mix my Avène and a little Clarins. I’ve also been using Armani Crema Nera Reviving Eye Compact on my eyes, I don’t have any dark circles, but I do see some little wrinkles popping up. So this cream is really, really good. I use it night and day. Here and there I’ll use SkinCeuticals Micro‑Exfoliating Scrub, I love it because it has really fine bits that instantly soften and smooth out your skin. I only use that once or twice a week because I have such sensitive skin. I do have a Clarisonic that I use maybe once a week, my skin is just so delicate it can’t handle more than that. But it’s really good for exfoliation. Also, I always wake up with red eyes. Maybe it’s an age thing, or maybe it’s because I don’t sleep well, but they are noticeably red in the morning. Seriously, the older I get the redder my eyes get. So Alcon Naphcon A Eye Drops are my absolute favourite. I’m an eye drop ho, and this stuff is seriously the best. I’ve tried everything, even those mint ones from Japan, but Alcon is your brand for really red eyes. I usually wear…all of this [motions to face], so when I come home I immediately use myPhilosophy Purity Made Simple Foaming 3-in-1 Cleansing Gel for Face and Eyes. It’s a one step makeup remover and cleanser that’s great for oily skin. The one step part is key, the last thing I want to do after a long day is spend half an hour in front of the mirror before bed. So I use this and an eye cream in the evening, but I actually don’t use a face cream at night because my skin is oily. I don’t know if it’s good or bad, but that’s just what I do. But when I feel like it, sometimes I use Weleda Skin Food Cream so that I wake up with really plump skin. I actually use this as a skin prep for my clients. It works on everyone. But let me emphasize that I neversleep in my makeup. I’m such a freak about taking off my makeup at the end of the day. Because if I don’t I will see the consequences on my face the next day. I would rather take off my makeup than brush my teeth. But I do both [laughs]. For a quick rinse-free removal and cleanse I also use Bioderma Solution Micellaire Peaux Sensibles. It’s a good one for travel. I was constantly on the move on tour with Carly so I would just swipe this across my face in the airport. She also introduced these Skyn Iceland Hydra Cool Firming Eye Gel masks to me. These are the best eye de-puffers I’ve ever tried – they work instantly in 10 minutes. I like to put these in the refrigerator before I use them so that they’re nice and cooling. You just put them on for 10 minutes – your skin will get tighter, and then the puff is just gone after. It’s amazing. Another good travel product is the cult favourite Caudalie’s Beauty Elixir. All of those and my eye drops, they’re my travel saviors. For lips, I’m currently obsessed with By Terry Baume de Rose. It’s amazing; I use it as my personal balm. It just leaves your lips so satiny and silky. I haven’t
